About Our ASN Program

We have an unprecedented need in the United States for skilled and caring nurses who can work with patients across the lifespan. In particular, nurses are needed to care for the increasing elderly population that requires specialized attention. Earning an Associate of Science in Nursing from AdventHealth University can lead to many meaningful careers throughout health care that fill this gap, as well as advanced degrees to increase your career potential.

You can complete the ASN program in as little as 24 months. You will learn from highly experienced, practicing faculty members who prioritize critical thinking and clinical reasoning to ensure you can adapt to nearly any medical situation you are faced with.

A World-Class Associate of Science in Nursing Program

As the health sciences continue to innovate technological solutions and advance patient care, it’s important for students in the ASN program to gain competence in the latest equipment and tools used in patient care. When you join the ASN degree program, world-class hospital labs across Orlando and Tampa, Florida, will become your classrooms.

We keep our ASN classes small so you can enjoy meaningful face-to-face time with our esteemed nursing program faculty. You’ll work in our state-of-the-art simulation labs under the guidance of our faculty experts to build the confidence and practical skills to excel as a nursing professional on day one of your career.

AHU’s ASN degree program stands apart, thanks to our mission-focused foundation. By combining nursing and nutrition sciences with a faith-based educational environment, we help students focus on whole-person learning and care, which looks at each patient as an individual physically, psychologically, and spiritually.

Hands-On Learning. Real-World Environment.

Rigorous experiential learning makes up the core of our Associate of Science Nursing program. Every class will offer you chances to study cases, participate in virtual and in-person simulations and group discussions, and use interactive technology that enhances the learning experience.

We’ve designed unique Dedicated Education Units (DEU) in AdventHealth hospitals to provide a safe, efficient, and seamless transition from nursing student to practicing nurse. In the DEU program, you’ll work intensively with nurse leaders known as preceptors, treating patients and gaining hands-on experience in a dynamic hospital environment.

AHU also offers an impactful Clinical Scholars program in which a practicing nurse in the AdventHealth system devotes one shift each week to serving as a clinical instructor for nursing program students. Clinical Scholars work closely with seven to eight students in a simulation lab, skills lab, and a hospital unit.

Both campuses feature state-of-the-art simulation labs and hands-on clinical rotations at local AdventHealth facilities. The Orlando campus admits up to 50 students per daytime cohort, while the Tampa campus offers a more intimate cohort of up to 25 students with start dates in the Fall and Spring trimesters.

  • Question: Who can apply to the ASN program?

    Answer:

Recent high school graduates, GED holders, college transfer students, and adults looking to change careers are all eligible to apply to the Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) program.

To be eligible for the nursing cohort, applicants must first be admitted to AdventHealth University's General Studies program. From there, you can apply to the ASN program once you have completed (or are in the process of completing) the required prerequisite courses and have successfully passed the TEAS exam.

  • Question: What are the admission requirements for the ASN program?

    Answer:

To apply for the ASN program, students must first be admitted to the General Studies program. Applicants must maintain a minimum 3.00 GPA on prerequisite courses (including biology, math, psychology, and nutrition) and achieve an ATI TEAS (Version 7) composite score of at least 62.5%.

Admissions and Application Requirements

  • Question: What are the TEAS test requirements for the nursing program?

    Answer:

Applicants must achieve a composite score of at least 62.5% on the ATI TEAS exam (AHU accepts Versions 6 and 7). While your TEAS scores do not expire, you may retake the test up to 3 times within a 12-month period, with a minimum of 30 days between attempts.

  • Question: What prerequisite courses do I need to take?

    Answer:

To be evaluated for the ASN program, you must maintain a minimum 3.00 GPA across your cognate prerequisite courses. These required courses include BIOL101 (with lab), MATH103 (Survey of Math), NUTR120, PSYC128, and ENGL101. If you have already taken a higher-level math course at another institution, it may be transferred in to satisfy the MATH103 requirement.

  • Question: How does the application process work?

    Answer:

First, you must apply and be admitted to AHU's General Studies program. Once accepted, we recommend applying to the ASN program immediately, provided you have your TEAS score and most prerequisites finished. Your ASN application is considered complete and ready for evaluation once you have submitted the nursing application through the my.ahu portal, sent your official TEAS score to the Office of Admissions, and provided official transcripts showing your prerequisites are completed or in progress.
