Financial Aid Eligibility

In general, you must meet the following criteria to be eligible for financial aid:

  • Be enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a regular student in an eligible degree or certificate program
  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress in a college or university.
  • Be a U.S. citizen, national or permanent resident alien
  • Be enrolled at least half-time (6 credits for undergraduates and 4 credits for graduate students at AHU) to be eligible for the Direct Loan Program
  • Not be in default on prior student loans
  • Not owe a repayment or overpayment of a federal grant
  • Have a valid Social Security number (except for students from the Republic of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, or the Republic of Palau)
  • Sign the certification statement on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) form stating that you’re not in default on a federal student loan, you do not owe money on a federal student grant, and you’ll only use federal student aid for educational purposes
  • Show you are qualified to obtain a college education
  • Having a high school diploma or a recognized equivalent such as a General Educational Development (GED) certificate
  • Completing a high school education in a homeschool setting approved under state law (or—if state law does not require a homeschooled student to obtain a completion credential—completing a high school education in a homeschool setting that qualifies as an exemption from compulsory attendance requirements under state law)

Applying for Financial Aid

You must complete a new FAFSA each year. You must also submit some new documents each year. It is best to begin this process after you have filed your taxes. You can begin your Financial Aid Process while you are waiting for your acceptance.

Applicants are required to submit an online application found at apply.ahu.edu. Once an application is started, the applicant’s AHU ID number (also referred to as the username) and password are created at the same time. Please write down this information. These credentials will be used to log in to my.ahu.edu.

Complete your FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov. AHU School Code: 031155. As soon as we receive your FAFSA we will send you an e-mail and a letter to your mailing address with further instructions. You may make corrections to your FAFSA if needed.

Please complete your AHU financial aid application available through the link below and through my.ahu.edu. Please remember to change the academic year if needed. If you have any questions about you credit hours for each trimester please contact your Academic/Program Counselor.

When completing your AHU Financial Aid Application, submit all required documents for processing Financial aid will be awarded after you are accepted to AHU and all documents are received.

The Financial Aid System allows you to see:

  • General financial aid important information
  • Awards
  • AHU financial aid application
  • Loans and loan history
  • Access forms

Disbursement funds will occur approximately 2-4 weeks following Drop/Add period. Additional disbursements will be posted. Once the disbursements are posted, you may view them at my.ahu.edu. Charges will be deducted at that time. Any remaining amount of financial aid will be processed as a refund. If charges remain on your account after disbursements or if subsequent charges are made to your student account, it is your responsibility to pay for them.

Helpful Tips

  • We recommend completing your taxes first.
  • Respond promptly to any requests and notify us immediately if you move or change your telephone number.
  • When completing the FAFSA your name should be exactly the same as indicated on your Social Security Card.
  • Use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool if you are eligible when completing the FAFSA. Using this tool may lower your probability of being selected for verification and providing additional documents for that process.
